Officials & Helpers

Athletic championships, whether they are Cross-Country, Track & Field or Combined Events, require contributions from many to make the event a success.

Our championships invariably see many hundreds of competitors competing in a single day; consequently the number of qualified officials, ably assisted by helpers, needs to be large.

The 2026 competitions are listed, below, with a brief explanation.

Our events really do comply with the two adages:

The more the merrier, and
Many hands make light work.

2026 Competitions:

Saturday 3rd January - England Athletics South-West Region Cross-Country Championships - RNAS Merryfield.

This annual non-school event requires many helpers and officials to showcase the course at its finest.

Saturday 17th January - County Cross Country Championships - RNAS Merryfield

The annual event will be held again at RNAS Merryfield, a venue of much historical importance for the Association. Areas can enter 20 competitors per age group meaning a maximum of 640 athletes.

Weekend 25th & 26th April - County Combined Events Championships - BWA

This Championships staged jointly by the Schools and County Associations sees a wide range of abilities and ages compete on the multi-event stage. If entries are good then the event will again be one of the largest, of its type, in the world! Many officials and helpers are needed.

Saturday 13th June - County Track & Field Championships - BWA

The Association’s show piece Track & Field Championships with some 500+ competitors progressing from their Area Championships. A full day’s competition in all age group events requires the assistance of many.

Saturday 20th June - South-West Schools T&F Championships - Exeter Arena

From the County Championships usually more than 100 of our athletes progress to the SW Champs. The event, seeing all the regions finest athletes compete in Exeter, is a very large event requiring a great many officials.

Weekend 27th & 28th June - South-West Region Combined Events Champs - BWA

We are again hosting this regional championships which sees talented athletes compete in a friendly atmosphere with all endeavouring to progress to the ESAA Champs. An event thoroughly enjoyed by athletes and officials.

?? July - Year 7 Track and Field Festival - BWA (Date to be decided.)

This event gives the ‘new’ year 7 students a chance to participate in an athletic event on a track. The afternoon will be hectic and thoroughly enjoyable and requiring many helpers.
