The county is divided into four areas: Sedgemoor in the west, Mendip in the east, Yeovil in the south-east and Taunton in the south-west.
At the county championships athletes in junior (u15), intermediate (u17) and senior (u19) age groups represent their area whilst in junior championships athletes in year 7 and year 8 represent their schools.
County teams are selected in cross-country, track and field, combined events and race walking to compete in regional and national championships.
